Why Sacramento Pool Decks Need Resurfacing

Sacramento's climate is hard on concrete — hot summers cause expansion and contraction that creates cracks, UV exposure bleaches color, and years of foot traffic roughen the surface. A deteriorating pool deck is both an aesthetic problem and a safety hazard.

We resurface pool decks across Sacramento using three approaches: demolish and pour new concrete, apply a decorative overlay, or install pavers. Each has advantages depending on the existing deck condition and your desired result.

  • Demo and replacement for severely damaged decks
  • Decorative overlays to refresh good-condition concrete
  • Paver installation over existing base
  • Stamped patterns: Ashlar slate, brick, cobblestone, travertine
  • Slip-resistant finishes for safety around water
  • Expansion joints cut to prevent future cracking

"We had a cracked, ugly pool deck that we'd been embarrassed about for years. Phenomenal Pool tore it out and poured a beautiful stamped concrete deck in the Ashlar slate pattern. It transformed the whole backyard."

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

If your deck has surface cracking, staining, or fading, an overlay or fresh concrete may work. If there's significant heaving, deep cracks, or structural damage to the sub-base, full removal and replacement is the right call. We'll assess this at our site visit.
Light-colored concrete and travertine pavers stay the coolest underfoot. Standard gray concrete is much cooler than dark stone. We can advise on colors and finishes that minimize heat absorption.
Standard concrete replacement takes 3–5 days including demo, pour, and curing time. Stamped concrete takes similar time but requires the stamping and coloring process during the pour. Pavers take 3–7 days depending on the size of the area.
We can get close, but an exact match isn't always possible due to weathering on the existing concrete. For stamped work, we can match patterns and get very close on color. If consistency is important, we often recommend replacing all adjacent concrete at once.
Yes — Sacramento's mild winters are generally fine for concrete work. We avoid pouring in temperatures below 40°F or during rainy periods, but most of our winter schedule is unaffected.
